Cheers to Freakin’ Weekend

It’s Friday, people! Can I hear a hallelujah?!

In the spirit of the weekend, I decided to dedicate today’s post to one of my favorite things — wine.

Red wine, white wine, sparkling wine…I love it all. In fact, I may go so far as to say that I am thankful for wine. I love that you can have a romantic night over a bottle of wine, or spend the day chatting and gossiping over bottle(s) with your close friends. Living on Long Island, I am lucky enough to have quite a few vineyards nearby. It’s so fun to spend the day tasting different wines, comparing them, and feeling like a true wine connoisseur.

I also love wine-themed items as decor. My kitchen has a growing wine theme, with wall art and a cork table centerpiece, and our living room features a pretty extensive wine wall. To me, wine serves many purposes!

Check out these amazing pieces that bring the vineyard right into your home…

One day I will have this wine barrel coffee table. It’s classic yet absolutely a statement piece.

Or maybe a wine barrel table with a glass top, to keep things a little softer looking.

I love the simplicity of this wine barrel chandelier. Gorgeous!

This wine bottle chandelier is a little more flashy, but still completely classy. Can we expect anything less from Pottery Barn?

Check out this amazing DIY cork artwork. I could only dream of doing something so cool.

I’d so love to have a wine crate ottoman like this. Functionality and style.

Or how fun would this little wine crate storage on wheels be holding all your favorite magazines?

The most difficult part about having wine-related items in your home is being careful not to go too far. I’m personally not a fan of plastic grapes, or other items of that nature. As with any “theme” it’s easy to go overboard, so you need to watch yourself from falling into the “cheesy” category.

Now excuse me, I need to get through this day so I can go home and open a bottle!

Have a lovely weekend, everyone!

Stick a Cork in it

Well folks, I can happily say that I have completed my second DIY! Remember last week when I talked about my need for new fridge magnets? I actually did something about it!

I’ve been collecting wine corks for some time now because I have my mind set on one day making cork artwork for my kitchen. I don’t have enough to do it just yet, but my little cork centerpiece is totally full and I had some extra champagne corks just sitting around in a bag waiting for me to be crafty.

So I tried to be.

First, I started by slicing six champagne corks in half.

Then, using an exatact-o knife, I carved a little divot in the center of each cork for a magnet. I did this because I wanted the finished product to lay flush with the fridge,  rather than have a space in between the cork and the fridge because of the bulky magnet.

Then, I hot glued a magnet to each cork.

And there she blows!

Cute, right? I’m pretty sure John thought I was going insane for doing this craft, but even he admitted that they are super cute in person. And it only took me like 10 minutes, and the $2 it cost to buy the magnets. Success!

Here’s what my fridge currently looks like:

See that picture with all the hearts? That’s my absolute favorite drawing of all time. My niece Emma drew it before the wedding, and it shows me in my wedding gown and John in his tux. Adorable right? I’m pretty sure I’m framing it, so it’s stay on the fridge is limited.

Hope you are all having a wonderful Tuesday!!

Apartment Update: The Living Room

We have saved the best for last.  Very excited to share pictures of our living room. It’s literally just that…the room we do the most living in. What do I love the most about it? Our comfy couches, wine wall and amazing hutch.

Before:

After:

Do you like it? There’s a great story about that hutch that I think I’ll have to share another time. For now it stands there in all its glory, featuring my amazing wedding china.

The wine wall is our favorite, prominently displaying our beloved beverages (yea, it’s not fully stocked right now since we do actually drink from it). If you didn’t pick up on it already, The Dickerson’s love their wine. So you can all feel free to send us some. Or let’s become friends in-real-life and you can come over and drink some with us. Okay??

The bookshelf was a must. I love to read. Mostly sci-fi/postapocalyptic reading, but that is ANOTHER topic for a different post.

You can also see my brand new sunburst mirror in that picture! Remember when I told you I was looking for one? Well I saw this bad boy in HomeGoods and fell in love. It doesn’t photograph as well as it looks in person (or I’m just not that good at taking pictures) but it really looks great in the room.

What do I want to change for this room? Well, here’s what I’m thinking:

  1. Make it cozier
  2. More artwork
  3. Different curtains

Obviously I’d love to paint, but since this is a rental I’m going to leave the painting to a minimum. Do you have any suggestions for us? Would love to hear your thoughts!
